What's the difference between pie pumpkin and regular pumpkin?
I saw some small pumpkins at the supermarket labeled with a sticker that said 'pie pumpkin'. Other than being smaller, is there any difference between these and the pumpkins people carve for jack-o-lanterns?

I grew both this year and I found the pie pumpkin flesh to be a bit sweeter and less stringy which makes for a nicer textured pie. It seemed to be less watery too come to think of it which means less prep time for you. In a pinch, you could use jack o lantern pumpkin but I do like the pie pumpkins better. Plus they're smaller and easier to cut up.
